Therapies Offered

Each of us is the sum of our experiences in life.  The secret is discovering how those experiences interrelate.

I offer professional counselling in the areas described below.

Person-centred Approach

Person-centred therapy was the first 'talking therapy' proven to work.

It is an established and recognised therapeutic approach based on the belief that clients are better helped when they are supported in understanding their own current situation and to find their own solution in resolving their unique circumstances, rather than someone else's biased belief and diagnosis of what they think is best for you.

The Person-centred approach believes strongly that in order for a condition to improve the therapist should be empathic, genuine and understanding.

Person-centred therapists do not judge; instead we strive to help you understand yourself and work with you to help you find your answers.

The core conditions of the Person-centred approach are taken by many other forms of therapy and used as the basis for their way of working.  Used properly, and as a whole, they are proven to be sufficient on their own to help most people with most issues.  I will not tell you what to do or set 'homework tasks ' that you must do - adding to your stresses!

Together we will find the way so you can look forward again.

Person-centred therapy is provided at £40 per session.

You can opt for open-ended, where we work toward an agreed goal; or time-limited, where we work together for an agreed amount of time, say 6 or 8 sessions.

All sessions will be 1 hour.

Payable in advance.

Walk n Talk

We think better on our feet!

The benefts of being in the outside with the fresh air and the removal of walls gives a freedom to therapy.

Being in the open, able to look further and wider whilst connected in nature can help give a wider perpective to help resolve big issues.  Research has proven the physical and mental health benefit we gain just by connecting to the environment and nature; and the simple 'side-to-side' motion of walking is shown to help 'unstick' our thoughts and help find solutions.

We can stop along the way as we gain insight from things we see or touch, or just find a space within ourselves as we connect with the outdoors.

We can combine the benefits of the outdoors (ecotherapy) whilst remaining person-centred in nature - literally!

Walk & Talk requires an initial conversation to arrange and check suitability.

A chance to talk, to breath, and to think clearly without walls

Walk n Talk is only available in the Lincoln area.

All sessions are charged at £40 per session.

All sessions will be 1 hour.

Payable in advance.

Walk n Talk requires an initial consultation to check on suitability and to confirm arrangements together. There is no charge for this initial talk.

Have you had a traumatic event you are finding hard to leave behind?

Experiencing flashbacks or struggling with panic attacks triggered by things that 'take you back'?  Has it made you have suicidal thoughts?

Rewind Technique (RT)

Rewind is a proven method for treating trauma and phobias quickly and effectively.  It is recognised to be effective in helping resolve issues related to both PTSD and complex PTSD (cPTSD).   3 sessions of Rewind can achieve more than 8-12 sessions of CBT.

  • Research by Cardiff university found that current treatments of CBT and EMDR at best achieve a 48% success rate whereas The Rewind Technique has been shown to achieve more than 90% success.

( January 2021,  European Journal of Psychotraumatology 12(1):1844439)

Many people with trauma or phobias have been treated using approaches which make them relive the experience again; often a highly unpleasant and troubling thing to have to do.

With Rewind Therapy you do not need to re-live or to re-experience the incident that is causing your distress.

I do not require you to retell the painful story over and over again:  you are trying to ‘escape it' and recover after all!

I will help you review it and safely reprocess and relocate it in your past memory so it stops haunting you in the present.

We will work together to stop events in the past impacting you in the present.

Unlike some therapies which teach 'coping strategies and techniques', Rewind removes the painful emotions from the traume event that causes the troubling responses.

Rewind Therapy is a brief, non-intrusive, trauma focussed therapy.  It uses guided visualisations to help you re-process and overcome the traumatic memories.

Unlike some therapies that just give strategies to help you cope with the thoughts of the event, Rewind deals with your reactions to the event; This is essential because our survival instinct programs us to react first then think.

My approach combines Rewind and Person-centred in a pluralistic approach to help with wider issues caused by the trauma .

This approach requires a review session two weeks after the therapy session.

Both will be of 1 hour (the first session may require slightly longer).

A single fee of £80 covers both sessions.

This can be paid as a payment of £40 before both appointments.

For maximum benefit 3 therapy sessions (with reviews) are recommended.

About Rewind

Single Session Therapy (SST)

Requires a more focused approach but is still carried out with a person-centred way of being.

01  Check appropriateness

We talk briefly to agree if this could work and I provide a brief pre-therapy guide to help you get the most out of this way of working.

We plan to meet 'AS IF' we have just one session.

02 The Session

We meet for up to 75 minutes and focus on a single issue identified by you.

I use person-centred values but will stick closely to your goals for this session.

03 Check In

I contact you a few days later and check in with you.  We check if :

  • a more formal way of working is appropriate.
  • If another therapy might help (i.e Rewind, CBT)
  • I can signpost you to other services

04 Next Steps

We agreed to work 'AS IF' this was a single meeting.

You can re-contact me any time you want; we can look at other options or arrange another SST to focus on another issue -

You are in charge.

SST requires an initial consultation. There is no charge for this.

Following this I will provide a pre-therapy guide for you to complete and discuss in the planned session.

This helps you focus on the key issue we will look at together.

The session will be up to 75 minutes should you wish.

I will then call and check in with you 2 -3 days later.

A single £60 SST fee covers both the therapy session and the check-in later.

Online & Telephone Counselling

Online therapy allows you to access support from the privacy, comfort and convenience of your own home - or wherever you are; all you need is internet access or a phone.

Many clients choose online therapy because the distance makes it feel less intimidating and telephone counselling can offer even more privacy.

It can be ideal if your lifestyle or job requires you to move around a lot.  You must be UK based though as I comply with UK guidelines and regulations.

This makes it ideal if you are home-bound, have no reliable transportation, or live some distance away ...

During all online and telephone counselling I always use earbuds to ensure your privacy.

For online work I use a secure, certified medical video therapy platform - not Zoom or Teams.

Fees & Charges

Payment is requested in advance of sessions.

Payment can be made by telephone banking/online transfer when arranging the sessions.

Sessions cancelled by clients with more than 12 hours notice will be refunded.

Should I cancel for any reason a full refund wil be given if a rescheduled appointment is not possible.

A 50% discount is available to

 Armed Forces personnel & veterans.

I offer a reduced £25 fee for student counsellors requiring counselling as part of their training.

Let's Talk

The first step in therapy is talking. Let's find a time where we can meet and talk about what's on your mind.
